General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) continues its PANDUR 6×6 Evo Multirole strategy and presented two new model variants focused on drone defense and short-range air defense at Airpower22 in Zeltweg.
Already during the conception of the PANDUR Evo, the focus was on efficiency in terms of user-friendliness, training, and logistics due to tight defense budgets, developing a flexible vehicle platform capable of fulfilling various roles in operations.
Successfully operating as a personnel transport tank in the Austrian Armed Forces since 2018, GDELS-Steyr presented the PANDUR Evo towards anti-tank with a modern Impact turret (Integrated Precision Attack Combat Turret) from MBDA at Eurosatory in Paris, equipped with two integrated 5th generation anti-tank missiles of the Akeron MP type.
Shortly before that, in Pocek, Slovenia, GDELS-Steyr integrated a remotely controlled 30mm weapon system RS6 from Kongsberg (30 x 113) into the PANDUR Evo, successfully demonstrating it in live fire during the Kongsberg User Conference.
During Airpower on September 2 and 3, GDELS-Steyr took another step forward and presented the PANDUR Evo focusing on drone defense and short-range air defense with the Giraffe 1X radar system from Saab and another Pandur Evo equipped with the Mistral Atlas RC air defense system from MBDA.
The Saab G1X 3D air surveillance radar has a range of up to 75 kilometers and enables the detection, classification, and tracking of airborne threats. According to manufacturer MBDA, the IR-seeking missile has a success rate of 96 percent and is designed to combat UAVs, high-speed aircraft, and highly maneuverable jets and helicopters.
