No guns? Arc'teryx in the shitstorm

06/20/2021By Redaktion

With 2A, Americans don't joke around. Well, many don't. The Second Amendment guarantees gun freedom and thus eternal debates. Others are different and are becoming less engaged with it, which is also affecting business. In the USA, this screenshot is currently circulating, allegedly written by a Business-to-Business Coordinator of the world-leading outdoor brand ARC'TERYX, informing a company in the tactical field or a firearms company that they no longer want to deal with weapons due to a change in brand policy.

Possibly, the inquiring company wanted to order a "limited run" of clothing from ARC'TERYX and was thus rejected. So, "cancel culture" — and the company then sent out this email as a screenshot to its environment — while anonymizing themselves.

The excitement in the USA has been going on for the past weekend throughout the industry, which naturally also relies on expensive branded clothing from the Canadian luxury manufacturer. Even big brands like SIG SAUER have sold "limited runs" with ARC'TERYX and their own logo as a statement to the shooting clientele — and everyone made money and was happy. And now this email ... (sent to whomever). Is ARC'TERYX now "woke capital"? Or is the old joke proving true that a Canadian is nothing more than an American without guns — as opposed to the "gun-crazy" citizens of the USA.

Just a few hours ago, Eric from SOLDIER SYSTEMS managed to get a weekend statement from ARC'TERYX:

"The email screenshot expressing a restrictive policy for direct sales to companies in the tactical industry was sent in error. This does not reflect our current policies. The customer was notified, we apologized to them, and they have been put in touch with the Arc'Teryx LEAF Business Unit."

All good then? ARC'TERYX is not "anti-gun" after all? Eric from SOLDIER SYSTEMS breathes a sigh of relief and sees it all as a big misunderstanding. Despite the apology and message from ARC'TERYX, it's not quite that clear, because LEAF is only a tiny part of the outdoor giant, which specializes specifically in "Law Enforcement and Armed Forces" and delivers directly to the troops. So, is ARC'TERYX trying to keep ARC'TERYX "clean" and "morally pure" in the outdoor business while outsourcing the "dirty" business with "tactical" companies or firearms companies to LEAF? Money famously doesn't smell ... This hot debate in the USA will continue...
