Netherlands modernizes FENNEKs

12/10/2020By Redaktion

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and the Dutch procurement agency DMO (Defence Material Organisation) have signed a contract for the upgrade of 322 FENNEK vehicles. The MLU (Mid Life Update) order amounts to over 300 million euros and includes the integration of new observation and reconnaissance equipment (BAA II NDL) and the integration of the C4I command and control system. The work will be carried out at KMW in Germany and in the Netherlands, with partner companies Van Halteren Defence and Nedinsco in collaboration with the Army's Material Stock Logistic Command (MatLogCo).

Delivery of the upgraded FENNEK systems will begin in 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2027. The FENNEK is a bi-national project between Germany and the Netherlands. In addition to the FENNEK reconnaissance vehicle, there are other variants, from the engineer vehicle to an anti-tank variant to highly mobile air defense. They all share high off-road capability due to the special drive concept and robust chassis design. The FENNEK family is presented on the KMW website.
