New thermal image on weapon for the US Army

10/12/2022By Redaktion

Leonardo DRS, Inc. ("DRS") will produce the next generation thermal weapon sights for the U.S. Army. The fixed-price contract with the U.S. Army Contracting Command is valued at $579 million over five years.

Leonardo DRS Electro-Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) will deliver Family of Weapons Sights - Individual (FWS-I) Systems. The FWS-I utilizes DRS's uncooled thermal imaging technology and is a stand-alone, attachable weapon sight that wirelessly interfaces with helmet-mounted sight systems like the new ENVG-B (Enhanced Night Vision Goggle Binoculars) - also part of the new procurement - and the next-generation Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS), providing soldiers with rapid target acquisition capabilities. It enables target acquisition during the day and night, as well as in smoke or fog, giving the soldier a significant advantage.
