New laser light module for the Bundeswehr

07/21/2021By Redaktion

The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver laser light modules for the German armed forces. A corresponding framework contract, which covers a total quantity of up to 130,000 laser light modules in the future, has now been signed. Initially, 2,460 devices worth 3 million EUR are to be delivered. With the framework contract, Rheinmetall is associated with an order potential of up to 178 million EUR. This is the largest order in the area of laser light modules that has been booked by the manufacturer of the devices, Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics from Stockach on Lake Constance. The framework contract initially runs for seven years. HERE you can find all technical data on the new LLM VarioRay of the Bundeswehr.

Since the devices can be used on all assault rifles, submachine guns, machine guns, and sniper rifles previously introduced in the Bundeswehr through standardized interfaces, this already significantly increases the night combat capability of the troops. Deliveries will begin this year. Initially, the Bundeswehr will receive 360 devices for integrated target acquisition. This will be followed by 2,100 more laser light modules that have already been firmly ordered.

The selected device is a version of the latest generation of Rheinmetall Laser-Light-Module LLM-VarioRay. The laser light modules are primarily used on the handheld weapons of the infantry and dismounted troops to discover, identify, and mark targets.

Weighing around 250 grams with mounting, the LLM-VarioRay can be mounted on any assault rifle using a MIL-STD 1913 rail/STANAG 4694 and can be operated via a trigger cable. It features a bright white light lamp, a red light laser marker, an infrared laser marker, and an electrically adjustable infrared illuminator. The light source can be selected and regulated continuously via a rotary switch. The device has a fully integrated, factory-aligned laser block. This laser block enables easy adjustment and alignment to the sight and weapon. Together with night vision and thermal imaging devices, the German armed forces can fulfill their missions across the entire spectrum of operations at any time of day or night and in any weather conditions.

The LLM-VarioRay product family is also part of the German soldier system "Infanterist der Zukunft – Erweitertes System (IdZ-ES)" and is used in the British Army as the Laser Light Module MK3 or in the Swiss Army as the Laser Light Module 19. It is also seen in action with the Special Forces of the Austrian Armed Forces. HERE you can find more information on the latest Rheinmetall illuminants, seen at the CONCAMO Marketing Shooting.

Rheinmetall offers a comprehensive portfolio of infantry equipment, including various target and illumination modules designed to enhance the tactical value of modern firearms. Another product is the LM-VTAL ("Laser Module – Variable Tactical Aiming Laser"), which is used by the Special Forces of the Bundeswehr. Rheinmetall's target and illumination modules are compatible with all common night vision devices and can be paired with the separate modular Rheinmetall weapon light "TL-MissionLight". Another top product from Rheinmetall is the rangefinder/ballistic computer "FCS-TacRay Ballistic" for sharpshooters and machine gunners.
