BUMP helmets seem to be an interesting business area, into which now 3M is also entering with its Ultra Light Weight Ballistic Bump Helmet. It is manufactured by Ceradyne Inc., a subsidiary of 3M, and the shell of the ULW-BBH is said to be 30 percent lighter than similar alternative products, which helps reduce fatigue for the wearer during operations. A heavy helmet is simply annoying. In terms of ballistic performance, it is equivalent to the Advanced Combat Helmet and has a ballistic standard of NIJ-IIIA. Following the trend, 3M has also mounted its own rail system on the helmet, allowing for additional equipment - from hearing protection to lights - to be mounted.
