New combat helmet for the Bundeswehr

12/11/2020By Redaktion

Rheinmetall and its strategic partner, the North American helmet manufacturer Galvion, have been awarded a contract by the German Bundeswehr to deliver a modern combat helmet. The framework contract awarded in November 2020 entails the delivery of up to 20,000 units of the Special Forces Combat Helmet model. An initial order of 5,000 helmets was already placed in November 2020. The delivery will be handled by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics in Stockach, well connected in the soldier equipment industry as a specialist for laser-light modules.
The framework contract runs until 2025, with the option for a two-year extension. The potential total contract value is in the low double-digit million euro range.

The new combat helmets offer improved protection and high wearing comfort - especially with level-dependent hearing protection and night vision devices. This significantly enhances the combat capabilities of the infantry soldier. The helmets are intended for special and specialized forces with Extended Basic Qualification for Special Operations (EGB Forces). Their use in the NATO VJTF 2023 spearhead force is also being considered. With the framework contract now in place, Rheinmetall strategically positions itself for further possible large orders in the area of tactical head protection.
