New upper receiver solution for Steyr AUG

10/21/2014By Redaktion

Steyr Mannlicher has announced today that it is releasing a new version of the (mostly civilian) AUG A3, the A3 M1. Up until now, there were two A3 variants, the SF version for the military, and the Z variant as a civilian semi-automatic. The former with a fixed optic, the latter with a long, flat rail on top. However, sports shooters also wanted the SF version, which, for example, was upgraded by the Jagdkommando by attaching an Aimpoint red dot sight to the fixed optic.

The A3M1 now follows suit and combines three worlds: instead of the previous fixed solutions, you can now mount either a short rail, a longer rail, or an optics group with rails. The optics will be available in 1.5- or 3x magnification. The front sling attachment on the housing has also been made more flexible: it now uses a QD Swivel from VLTOR.
