New and efficient power generators for the Bundeswehr

The Bundeswehr is to receive modern and environmentally friendly power generator units (SEA). To this end, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) has commissioned the technology company VINCORION to develop units in the power classes of 200 and 50 kilowatts and to provide test and pre-production models.

The economical and low-emission diesel generators of the SEA are new and unique. In normal operation with diesel fuel, they comply with the relevant standards and the emission limit values of the EU Stage V. If needed, for example in an overseas mission, regionally available diesel fuel can also be used. Through an innovative emission downgrade technology in exhaust gas aftertreatment, even highly sulfuric or diluted fuels can be used.

In addition to the units, the delivery of new energy storage modules in the same power classes has been commissioned. Regardless of the possible worldwide deployment location, any power fluctuations of local grids or voltages of other devices can be compensated for by these modules. Furthermore, these modules can now be operated in combination with the SEA units. If the SEA units are underutilized, adding the storage modules protects the diesel engines and thus extends the lifecycles of the units.

By integrating additional available photovoltaic modules into the power generator network, additional fuel and emissions can be actively saved.

The Bundeswehr expects delivery of the first test models in early 2024, with pre-production models to follow a year later. If the necessary budget is then provided, the first serial models are expected to be delivered to the troops in 2026.
