Australia continues to strengthen its military capabilities. 75 new M1A2 Abrams tanks from the USA, along with other armored vehicles – 29 Assault Breacher Vehicles for mine and explosive clearing, and 17 bridgelayers and six recovery vehicles – are in the pipeline. They will replace 59 Abrams M1A1 tanks purchased in 2007, but never saw combat. The new tanks are set to be delivered by 2024 and operational by 2025. The decision for the new infantry fighting vehicle is still pending, with Rheinmetall offering the Lynx and Hanwha proposing the Redback IFV.
