New colors for the Cobra

09/29/2014By Redaktion

After an 8-month testing phase, the time has come. AustriAlpin proudly presents the new finish of the COBRA(C) Quick Release buckle. Sand, coyote brown, tan 499, foliage green, elephant grey, wolf grey, white, and orange will now be finished in their own factory in Fulpmes in Tyrol using a thin-film powder coating system. The Cobras in black, matte black, titanium blue, and polished will continue to be delivered with the proven anodized or polished surface.

But why move away from the anodizing process? Camouflage patterns are developed worldwide with the aim of adapting patterns and coloring to the respective environment. In the overall picture, the colors of the hardware parts and accessories used must also harmonize to maintain the camouflage effect. With the previously applied anodizing process, these requirements could not be met for some color tones. Despite intensive research, a satisfactory result could not be achieved, especially with light colors.
Why Powder Coating? The powder coating ensures a consistently uniform finish and color uniformity of all parts. The new surface layer has a very high heat and UV resistance. In the ISO grid cut test for paint adhesion, the new powder coating passed with the highest grade of 0.
The new color palette is already being produced continuously, starting with Coyote brown. AustriAlpin plans to be fully capable of delivering all new colors by the end of the year. And by the way, but not unimportant for one of the last companies producing everything in Europe: the ecological footprint is even smaller with the new process. The new coating process is free of chromium 6 and any solvents, and unnecessary transport routes are eliminated with in-house production. The new Cobras will be available at TACTICALTRIM.
