Thermal meets Red Dot: Thales presents XTRAIM, a new optic that offers day/night capabilities, which previously could only be achieved by using different devices. The XTRAIM sight provides a significant operational advantage in both conventional and asymmetrical combat situations: It weighs less than approximately 530 g (including the battery) and is at least 70 mm shorter than alternative solutions. XTRAIM is a fully integrated sight for daylight use, combining a reflex red dot sight with thermal imaging technology to identify targets from the background (de-camouflage function). The high brightness of the red dot reticle allows for the detection and engagement of such targets even in bright sunlight.
For night operations, the XTRAIM is compatible with all types of night vision goggles. In this configuration, the infrared images of the optic are overlaid with the images of the light intensifier tubes in the night vision devices to allow for unprecedented target detection in low light conditions.
This new optic improves the situational awareness of the dismounted soldier in the field and allows for the detection of enemies with a high level of accuracy. The ergonomic design of the XTRAIM sight allows the shooter to shoot with both eyes open during day and night, while keeping a full view of their surroundings. We hope to be able to provide a more detailed overview of the optic soon.
