Navy SEALs with rebreathers

06/05/2010By Redaktion

With all the photos of Navy SEALs in desert camouflage from Iraq and Afghanistan, one easily forgets the wet core mission of these US Marine Special Operation Forces: "Sea" is, after all, the first word in the abbreviation for SEAL. Here is a SEAL photo in Dive Gear, likely taken before 1997. The men in wetsuits are wearing a closed-circuit breathing apparatus, allowing combat divers to dive without bubbles, the Dräger LAR V - now replaced by the successor models LAR VI and VII. The second from the left also has a navigation board in his hand.
