MP5 submachine guns for the Finnish police

10/22/2017By Redaktion

In response to the recent terrorist events in Finland, such as a knife attack that left two dead and several injured, Police Chief Ari Alanen announces that consideration must be given to which weapons will be issued to police officers for their service. The decision appears to have been made, and approximately 7,000 police officers will have access to Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns.

The MP5 is already in use in over 40 countries and has proven itself. This is interesting because elsewhere there is talk of "medium-range weapons" (aka assault rifles with a minimum caliber of 5.56) as procurement targets, in order to be on par with terrorists and to overcome 9mm caliber. But the MP5 will certainly enhance the Finnish arsenal. The exact delivery date is still unclear.
