Shocking: Weapons for British police officers?

08/05/2017By Redaktion

Currently in England and Wales, a survey is being conducted among all police officers to determine if they want to carry a duty weapon. The survey covers around 123,000 police officers. The last such survey was conducted in 2006.

Times change, and so does crime. There have been an increasing number of terrorist attacks, and the response times for armed officers seem to be too long. Especially in more rural areas, it is complained that there are not enough officers with a weapon to respond adequately to recent developments and extreme situations.

If officers are armed again in their daily work, this will surely also shape and change the overall image of the police. How the population will react remains to be seen. We are certainly curious to see the outcome of the survey and how decisions will be made.
