Modern Boxer

07/10/2017By Redaktion

On behalf of the German equipment office (BAAINBw), the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) signed a contract with ARTEC GmbH for the modernization of 246 Boxer vehicles of different variants for the German Armed Forces. The total value of the contract is around 94 million euros. The modernization of the vehicles will take place between 2018 and 2023 at the parent companies of the ARTEC joint venture.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) will carry out the modernization work on 208 out of the total 246 Boxer vehicles. This will include the installation of new satellite communication systems, improved mission control equipment, and an additional operator control unit for the weapon station. Additionally, the vehicles will receive a new stowage concept based on operational experience and will be prepared for the integration of a driver vision system. The German Bundeswehr already has over 400 Boxers in various variants in use or in the procurement process, and the Netherlands Army has 200 Boxers in use. Together with the Lithuanian vehicles, there are nearly 700 vehicles under contract with three user states.

The Boxer is one of the best protected 8x8 wheeled vehicles worldwide. It offers the crew the highest level of protection against mines, IEDs, and direct fire, and is characterized by high mobility on roads as well as in the most challenging terrain. The modular concept of a chassis and mission module provides high flexibility and a variety of variants. HERE is more information about the Boxer.
