TCCC & First Aid

With hard bandages (5): Tactical first aiders

12/04/2017By Redaktion

The abundance of designations for emergency medical-trained tactical personnel in Germany alone is large and confusing to the uninitiated. "Combat Medic," "Tactical Life Saver," and other sometimes quite exotic coinages are widespread and usually created by the respective training institution that the future tactical first aider attends. Training times also vary from a few hours to weeks and even months. So far, only the Bundeswehr has a binding structure.

However, it can be assumed that at least the measures described in the chapter have been taught to every tactically trained first aider under tactical conditions: stopping massive bleeding, securing the airway, and treating open chest injuries.

If this chapter has piqued your interest and you want to delve deeper into the topic of "Tactical Medicine," the non-profit Tactical Rescue & Emergency Medicine Association (TREMA e.V.) is recommended. Nowhere in the German-speaking world is there a larger association of professionals in the field of preclinical care and specialized rescue under extreme and/or tactical conditions.

You can reach the association through their website: www.tremaonline.info

If you are looking for literature on the subject, I recommend starting with the pictorial atlas "Tactical Management of Wounded for Military, Police, and Emergency Services" by Carsten Dombrowski. It has been published by WALHALLA Fachverlag and is now available in its 3rd edition (Order number: 19075).
