Conflicts
Mexico:

The accidental invasion

05/06/2025By Lawrence

Proving that the truth is sometimes stranger - and funnier - than fiction, an 18-man squad of heavily armed Mexican soldiers took an unscheduled field trip across the U.S. border nearly two weeks ago, apparently mistaking New Mexico for just "more Mexico."

Two volunteer search-and-rescue adventurers suddenly found themselves surrounded by a patrol of soldiers of the Mexican GUARDIA NACIONAL on a dusty trail near the small town of Hachita, New Mexico. Rather than panic, the two volunteers from Battalion Search and Rescue whipped out their GPS equipped smartphones to show the Mexican soldiers where they were.

The Mexican soldiers explained that they were looking for drug traffickers and gunrunners and were apparently genuinely surprised to learn they had wandered too far north — proving that even with modern equipment, getting lost in the desert can still happen. The section of the border where the incident happened is also apparently poorly marked. Once the soldiers realized that the two volunteers were American citizens and that they were in US territory, they piled back into their vehicles and headed back to the Mexican side of the border.

According to a story about the incident on Border Report, the Mexican National Guard commander in Juarez, Mexico, referred questions about the incident to their Mexico City headquarters, and the US Border Patrol has not provided comment either. At any rate, it does not appear to have generated any alarm or concern among authorities on either side. Kind of like that time that Switzerland accidentally invaded Liechtenstein.
