Rheinmetall has achieved another sales success in the United Kingdom. The British armed forces have ordered four additional Rheinmetall Mission Master robotic vehicles as part of the second phase (Spiral 2) of their Robotic Platoon Vehicle program. Rheinmetall was already able to place its robotic vehicle in the sub-project Spiral 1 of the British Robotic Platoon Vehicle program. This project aims to investigate the extent to which unmanned vehicles can enhance the firepower and capabilities of dismounted fighting forces at the platoon level.
After four Unmanned Ground Vehicles in the Cargo version in spring 2020, the British armed forces will now procure four additional Mission Masters equipped with a fire support module to test potential future capabilities. HERE all information about the Cargo Mission Masters of the British.
The four Mission Master Fire Support vehicles ordered at the end of February 2021 are scheduled to be delivered to the customer between May and August 2021. The contract, managed by Rheinmetall Canada, also includes training and support services as well as spare parts. In the customer's country, the joint venture Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land also supports the project.
The system is characterized by numerous innovative features. The core is the Rheinmetall PATH Autonomy Kit. It includes a range of modern sensors and algorithms that generate comprehensive situational awareness to find the safest path through the environment. This enables the vehicle to navigate safely through difficult terrain and successfully perform its mission without collisions.
A tablet computer with an integrated security board serves as the remote control, running the Rheinmetall Command and Control software that allows wireless control of the platform and the weapon station.
The Mission Master Fire Support is equipped with Rheinmetall's remotely controlled Fieldranger Multi weapon station. Target engagement is remote-controlled, not autonomous ("human in the loop"). The Fieldranger Multi weapon station with a 7.62mm weapon is fully stabilized and offers a wide vertical and horizontal swivel range to ensure high precision and firepower even at longer distances. HERE more information about the Fieldranger Multi weapon station.
Robotics is already changing the battlefield of the future. With the Mission Master, Rheinmetall offers a new modular unmanned vehicle (Unmanned Ground Vehicle/UGV) that can enhance the combat power of the troops in a variety of tasks. With the Mission Master, soldiers can apply artificial intelligence and robotic muscles for the unloved 3D tasks (dull, dirty, dangerous) and, more importantly, carry out their missions safely in operations.
The Mission Master is deployable and can serve as either an autonomous or semi-autonomous element of the combat group. The Mission Master platform is characterized by extreme flexibility and can be adapted to a variety of applications through modular, quickly attachable structures. In addition to supply, other applications include surveillance, protection, casualty evacuation, and CBRN reconnaissance. The Mission Master can also serve as a communication relay.
