The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the German Armed Forces (BAAINBw) has placed an order with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) for an additional 1,401 military trucks of the Unprotected Transport Vehicles (UTF) category, with a total value of 543 million EUR gross. 1,000 of these vehicles are a procurement from additional funds from the German government's economic stimulus package. The vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in 2021 and 2022. The framework contract signed in July 2017 for the procurement of state-of-the-art military trucks, originally providing for the delivery of 2,271 vehicles, has been increased by 1,000 units, allowing for the procurement of up to 3,271 UTF trucks.
From the original framework contract, 292 trucks of the 5-ton payload class and 109 trucks of the 15-ton payload class are being called up. These total 401 vehicles and additional services have a value of 154 million EUR and are expected to be delivered by the end of 2021. In addition, in 2021 and 2022, a further 1,000 trucks - 150 five-tonners and 850 fifteen-tonners - with a value of around 389 million EUR will be procured. These trucks financed by the economic stimulus package will be delivered by the end of 2022.
With the significant project of renewing the logistics vehicles, the Düsseldorf technology group for mobility and security is making a substantial contribution to the modernization of the German Armed Forces' fleet of many thousands of vehicles. The majority of the essential components - engines, axles, transmissions, and bodies - are of German manufacturing origin, and the vehicles will be assembled at the Vienna RMMV plant.
The high global distribution of RMMV vehicles provides great advantages in terms of interoperability and logistics, especially for multinational operations. Currently, countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Denmark are part of the user community. Norway and Sweden have also placed significant truck orders with Rheinmetall.
