More energy: GALVION SPM for the Marine Corps

GALVION is engaged in the development and manufacturing of military energy and data management solutions and has received a major order from the US Marine Corps (USMC) for its Squad Power Manager (SPM). The $11 million contract includes the delivery of SPM systems to all Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF) of the Marine Corps, including the reserve forces. The Squad Power Manager (SPM) is a core element of GALVION's Nerv Centr Active Systems product line, which provides scalable energy and data solutions for the dismounted operator. Delivery will begin in January 2023.

Designated by the Marine Corps as P2S2 (Portable Power Scavenger System), the GALVION SPM kit is a lightweight and compact multifunctional system that enables energy capture from various sources. With a selection of cables, connectors, and accessories, the system can capture, distribute, and manage power from sources such as solar, alternating current (AC), direct current (DC), military batteries, NATO plugs, and vehicle cigarette lighter/power socket connections.

The SPM kit includes adapters for powering USB-operated devices, radios, including AN/PRC-148, AN/PRC-152, and AN/PRC-117, the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR), as well as portable computing devices and peripherals. The SPM kit can take power from partially discharged batteries, vehicles, and regular wall outlets and convert that power into a usable format for device power and battery charging.

The SPM system does not require any special configuration or programming and efficiently converts and manages power based on the power source and device requirements. This allows teams to minimize weight and logistical burden by carrying fewer batteries, while increasing operational efficiency through active monitoring and management of power consumption.
