German Armed Forces:

More clothing for the troops

12/19/2024

The soldiers and civilians of the Bundeswehr already receive modern and high-quality clothing and personal equipment for their tasks today, while ensuring optimal protection.

The implementation of the follow-up solution in the clothing management of the Bundeswehr, which began in 2023, has been continuously developed since then.

For this purpose, the existing framework contract with the Bundeswehr Bekleidungsmanagement (BwBM) GmbH must be regularly adjusted. The fifth amending agreement signed today includes both new services and the corresponding financing for the years 2025 to 2032. The contract will come into effect with the 2025 budget.

The new service adjustment includes numerous new acquisitions, significantly improving the equipment of civilian and military personnel.

Among other things, a new, contemporary service clothing for the active troops and the reserves has been commissioned, providing them with articles with improved fit and optimized outer material, without significantly changing the traditional appearance.

The modernization of sportswear with increased wearing comfort and improved functionality is also part of the new contract.

In addition, new combat clothing for the special forces of the Bundeswehr will be procured. This will be provided as a coordinated set with different modules and in different camouflage variants, unlike the previous equipment, to ensure adequate equipment for deployment in various vegetation and climate zones.

But the follow-up procurement of existing items is also financed through the amended contract, not least due to the greatly increased volume of newly procured clothing as part of the change in times.

Another central part of the financing concerns the operational services of the BwBM GmbH. The costs for storage space, logistics, and the personnel deployed for this purpose also increased due to the additionally procured and managed quantities.

With the financing now available, the optimization of goods management will be promoted in the future, as will the digitization of logistical processes in the service stations.
