Material Science: Line of Fire TEGS System

11/06/2014By Redaktion

In this video, Line of Fire, a manufacturer of tactical gloves from the USA, presents the unique TEGS (Technologically Enhanced Grip System) System. TEGS can be imagined as a modified hook and loop fastener, with the side containing very small hooks located on the glove, providing an improved grip even without a matching counterpart, for example when climbing or holding a handgun. TEGS is also a multiplier in the field of self-defense as it provides a firmer grip that can be more painful for the opponent.

However, the Grip System only fully works when the object inside the gloves is attached to the TEGS counterpart (similar to loop fastener, but with harder and smaller fibers). Now, the tiny fibers connect and it becomes difficult to release the grip through horizontal force, although vertical force (such as letting go of the weapon) is not affected, allowing the object to be dropped at any time. According to Line of Fire, the combination of TEGS and counterpart increases horizontal grip strength by a whopping 280%!

In addition, LoF gloves are compatible with each other, making it very difficult for two wearers of the gloves to separate their hands (and in this case, it's not due to brand loyalty or close camaraderie).

TEGS bands are available in various pre-cut shapes (e.g. pistol grip) or as a roll. The possibilities for applying TEGS are diverse, what do you think about TEGS and what ideas for application come to mind?
