The Command Special Forces of the Navy is procuring the MARANEO M2 Advanced underwater propulsion system. As stated in the public announcement of the BAAINBw, the company Maraneo GmbH based in Bochum has been tasked with delivering the so-called Short-Range Underwater Swim Aid.
The system provides the combat swimmer with "bilateral hands-free operation, assists in deploying, attaching, and detaching tactical ascent aids, and stabilizes the wearer efficiently underwater / at the water surface," according to the Bundeswehr Procurement Office.
A total of 60 system sets are being procured, allowing for a diving range of up to five nautical miles (~9.26 kilometers). The Maraneo M2 Advanced underwater propulsion system consists of a battery unit, two thigh-worn propeller drives, a control unit, a hand control unit, and a carrying belt with optional harness. The total weight is 16.3 kg. The maximum thrust of the swim aid is stated to be at least 45 kg underwater.
This allows for a diving speed of up to 9 km/h. The propulsion system is usable up to a water depth of 100 meters. The main unit with battery can be secured using a Molle system. By using an optional plastic Molle quick-release fastener, the unit can be rapidly detached from the diver's equipment.
