Now there's something for your ears: a phrase with hearing protection function.

04/24/2024By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has been commissioned by the German Armed Forces with a key project for tactical communication, which is of cross-sectional importance for the entire troop. The technology company has thus been awarded a framework contract for the delivery of up to 191,000 sets of the "communication set with hearing protection function". The framework contract has a term of seven years and a possible order volume of up to 400 million EUR net.

The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has placed conditions on the project. 30,000 sets including connection cables with delivery in 2024 are firmly commissioned. A call for the delivery of another 30,000 sets for the year 2025 is expected. These two delivery lots financed from the special fund will have a value of up to approximately 140 million EUR net.

The communication set with hearing protection function - abbreviated as SmG - includes a modern active capsule hearing protection, which dampens harmful impulse noise and can amplify quiet sounds. Furthermore, the system has a microphone and can be connected to various radios, enabling radio communication. In addition to the combined hearing-speech unit, various push-to-talk (PTT) buttons and various cable sets for connecting to the various radios and on-board intercom systems are included in the scope of delivery. Rheinmetall has involved two leading manufacturers as subcontractors for the project: 3M Peltor with the ComTac VIII hearing-speech unit and CeoTronics AG with CT-Multi PTT 1C and 3C. The SmG is compatible with the new combat helmet also supplied by Rheinmetall, as well as with other types of helmets used by the German Armed Forces.
