Hunting Commando: Working where others go on vacation

12/06/2019By Redaktion

Soldiers of the Jagdkommando support the establishment of the Senegalese armed forces: In two training courses, 2018 and 2019, specialists from the special forces unit in Wiener Neustadt trained a combat diver team of the local marine special forces.

Unseen underwater

The training on the oxygen rebreather device allows soldiers to stay underwater for up to four hours without creating telltale bubbles. This enables combat divers to cover distances of up to eight kilometers underwater.

With the help of this technology, they can covertly board a ship occupied by smugglers or pirates or secure a beach area on land to ultimately bring in additional soldiers by boats.

Secure trade routes

The ability to carry out such operations is crucial for Senegal to secure its trade routes. Half of EU trade goes through the maritime route - therefore, the Federal Army contributes to the security of trade through this support.
