Australia is known for its rather peculiar and dangerously venomous fauna. Now there is a new specimen created by human hands that could become more common. Jaeger-C is being procured by the Australian Army for tests in 2022 and is a ground drone from GAARD TECH. What makes this vehicle interesting is its versatile and "low-tech" aspect, which already looks different from most UGV competitors we know based on appearance alone. Jaeger-C is designed to be extremely robust and has the option to be equipped with both a machine gun and a sniper weapon.
Jaeger-C also has another capability that is admittedly inspired by German military technology from World War II. It is an explosive tank that is intended to be used as an anti-tank weapon. Its model is the Goliath, although it looks somewhat different and has a very interesting wheel system instead of a chain. Other noteworthy aspects of the model are that it is intentionally not overly technological and is designed to be able to be used in swarms. It has two modes of operation: remote-controlled, like most UGVs, but also an autonomous mode.
And this is where most people would pay attention, as in Europe it is a major taboo for a weapon to operate with an image perception system and a learning program actively detecting enemies. The concept behind Jaeger-C is that it could quietly lie in ambush during operations, and when it notices something identified as an enemy, it would wake up. Then, it would either choose the "Chariot" mode, becoming a shooting "gunner tank," or the "Goliath" mode, attacking as a cargo carrier against enemy vehicles and tanks. Its explosive power is equivalent to a 10-kilo Javelin warhead, except that it could be used close to the ground against the soft underbelly of the target vehicle.
Stopping it is not so easy. The front of Jaeger-C is triple armored. This model was shot with 50 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. It could neither be destroyed nor stopped by it. The first layers of armor are damaged, but the second and third are intact. The Jaeger is fully functional, and even if it could no longer be controlled, it will act autonomously... A venomous little creature that the Australians are testing there. From GAARD TECH, there is also the Gen 5 Robotic Enemy Vehicle - which acts as an enemy role player. HERE is the story on SPARTANAT.
