Also this year there was plenty to see in terms of exhibitors and products at the IWA, and our friends from NORLITE also introduced a new conversion kit. This time, however, the new conversion system is for a completely different weapon platform, as MAJOR FINDING discovered - namely for the CZ Shadow 2.
So far, NORLITE had only conversion systems for Glock pistols. Since Glock is one of the most widely used service weapons on this planet, that naturally made sense. We have already reported on the USK-G in two articles (hereand here).
When it comes to the sports sector, however, there has been one particular brand that has stood out for years - namely the Czech-based CZ.
The base model - the CZ 75 - serves as the foundation for dozens of different models of sport pistols, which is continuously expanded by CZ. The CZ Shadow 2 is the brand's latest all-around talent and the successor to the "CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow." Currently, it is one of the most popular sport pistols and can be found in both static and dynamic competitions around the world.
Accordingly, it can be seen as a smart choice by NORLITE to expand their conversion systems to this platform, and for firearms experts, this choice is probably not surprising.
We were able to take a close look at the first prototype at the "Hohe Jagd & Fischerei" fair in Salzburg and also had a little chat with the manufacturer about it.
In the prototype, the housing still comes from an adapted housing from the Glock series, so the final product may undergo some changes. However, there is already a fitting slide and slide carrier installed that is fully functional with the grip of the Shadow 2.
The gap between the beavertail of the grip and the housing end will no longer exist in the finished product. Here, a part from the Glock series was also used temporarily for the fair.
The safety of the CZ will be fully functional, thus dispelling any remaining safety concerns that were occasionally raised regarding the Glock grips. There will also be no "slide catch" in the CZ sense, as all manipulations on the slide will be carried out as usual via the slide stop lever.
As a final safety feature, the two disassembly pins in the rear area of the housing have been rearranged. They are now not side by side, but one on top of the other. One is located in the lower part of the housing, and the other is under the Picatinny rail.
Mistakes in assembling the conversion kit (by the end user) and resulting damage to the system should be largely impossible as a result. Please do not consider this information as a challenge!
We are following the discussions about the USG-G on social media and have asked about possible plans to expand compatibility with additional weapon platforms. Conversion systems for e.g.: H&K USP or SIG P320 are as likely as for Walther PPK or Grandpa's Luger P08.
We are definitely very excited about the finished product and will test it thoroughly for you as soon as possible.
