IWA 2018: Through the snow with Fimbulvetr

03/22/2018By Redaktion

Let's be honest: Hopefully winter will be over soon. But at the same time, we are already looking forward to the next winter - and a proper one! Nice and cold, lots of snow: a "huge winter"! That's the meaning of the name "Fimbulvetr", which comes from Norse mythology and from a country where winter is really like that, Norway.

Fimbulvetr is also the name of a company that exhibited at the IWA 2018 at HQG.DE, specializing in snowshoes. These Norwegians come from the civilian sector (where things are colorful) and also produce for the military: Canada is on the left, the other two are in use in Europe.

Fimbulvetr are masters of plastic and have been awarded for their design. At the civilian ISPO 2014/15, they also won the "Award Winter Hardware". The basic principle is light weight, a reduction of parts, modern material (which is fortunately recyclable), and easy repairability. If, for example, the binding for the shoe were to break here, you simply unscrew it and replace it with a new one.

On the bottom, you can see the ice claws and the gripping structure for walking through the huge winter snow. This year, it seems unlikely that we will be able to use Fimbulvetr and see the snow, but we hope to be able to show you these practical snowshoes in a test next year.
