INTERVIEW: With the red dot to victory

09/04/2023By Redaktion

Andreas Dauphin shoots IPSC top class and uses red dot optics from HOLOSUN on his weapons. We wanted to know why and what his tips are for using Red Dots.

SPARTANAT: Andreas, as a competitive shooter, you are an intensive weapon user. You use HOLOSUN optics. Why?

Andreas Dauphin: I am a very intensive weapon user, as an IPSC competition shooter and part of the German IPSC Production Optic Team, I train a lot and of course need robust and resistant equipment. All HOLOSUN products offer these qualities without exception. The variety of options, whether in the reticle or in the brightness of the dot, certainly leave nothing to be desired, that is exactly why I trust HOLOSUN optics completely.

What is the optic of your choice for each pistol and why?

In competition, I swear by the HOLOSUN 507 Comp, the newest optic for all enthusiastic sports shooters. I use it on a Walther Q5 SF. The 507Comp can't deny its sporting roots. The shooter has various settings available for the reticle.
Overall, there are three options: the classic dot, the circle with a dot in the middle, and a circle without a dot in the middle. The circles can be changed in three sizes each.
In the compact range, I use the SCS on my Walther PDP. The HOLOSUN SCS-PDP was specially designed for the Walther PDP. The advantage here is the slim design, as well as the direct mounting without an adapter plate. Another advantage of the SCS (Solar Charging Sight) is that it has a built-in battery making battery changes completely unnecessary.

There are still people who aren't convinced by the red dot on the pistol. What do you say to them?

Personally, I am convinced that red dots on pistols will continue to gain popularity in the future. Everything has its justification, I believe that a faster, more precise shot is guaranteed with the red dot, as I no longer have to align the sights. I just have to aim the dot at the target.

From your experience: what tips are there for handling a red dot on the pistol?

Iron sight shooters simply need to switch to a red dot and experience how quickly and easily target acquisition becomes. Of course, as with iron sights, some training is required to quickly acquire the dot. But with a bit of training effort, this can be implemented quickly.

ANDREAS DAUPHIN is a sports shooter with over 30 years of competition experience. In his main job, he is a soldier, shooting instructor, and trained in Tactical Casualty Care. In the course of his activities, Dauphin has participated in various foreign missions. In sports, he is part of the Production Optics Team Germany, and has already competed in the World Championship in Thailand.

His Motto
It doesn't matter if you win or lose, until you lose
