INTERVIEW: Martin makes DYOG

01/11/2021By Redaktion

Klein und fein: Martin of DYOG makes Gear in Germany. We asked him for an interview and wanted to know how he got into equipment building and what his specialty is.

SPARTANAT: Martin, you produce Gear in Germany with DYOG. How did you get into Gear?

DYOG: If I had to date it, I've been into Gear overall since 2004. Since 2012, I have been actively involved in equipment manufacturing. At that time, I was looking in vain for a plate carrier for my own use. Either they were too expensive or made of cheap materials, or didn't have the right color or didn't have the features I imagined, or everything was all over the place. In any case, I quickly realized that pen and paper are the best solution. So I started putting a plate carrier on paper and ultimately created a prototype according to my ideas. Since I came into contact with sewing machines at an early age, I had relevant experience and realized that there was great potential in me. I made more prototypes.

SPARTANAT: What is DYOG specialized in? Who should use DYOG?

DYOG: Since the first prototype, DYOG specializes in tactical equipment. In recent years, however, I have noticed that one or two new products, which do not only appeal exclusively to the tactical user, make sense. DYOG is intended to appeal to military and tactical users, outdoor enthusiasts, EDC users, and all those who appreciate handmade equipment.

SPARTANAT: Is everything Made in Germany and handmade with you?

DYOG: I manufacture all my products with care and handwork in my small manageable factory in Germany.

SPARTANAT: Do you also do custom-made products?

DYOG: Kind of. For a few years now, I no longer accept all requests for custom-made products at DYOG. This has various reasons. On the one hand, I often had requests in the past where the interested party backed out at the last minute, and on the other hand, there are still enough people who think that an individual custom-made product made in Germany by hand is only worth peanuts.

SPARTANAT: What is the product in your range that you would recommend to everyone?

DYOG: In principle, I recommend every product from my range. If you leave aside the tactical products that require a special application, I recommend the recently released DYOG waist bag. But there is also the belt CB or the wallet Alpha, which I have been using every day for years.

Martin is DYOG and ex-soldier, reservist, trained retail merchant, with several years of experience in the service and service sector, as well as extensive experience in the outdoor area and is currently working for an international outdoor corporation.
