HX for helpers: Rheinmetall donates two trucks to the THW

06/28/2022By Redaktion

Rheinmetall supports civil disaster relief: Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV) donates two highly mobile HX 4x4 vehicles to the THW-Bundesvereinigung e.V. The official handover took place on June 22, 2022 at the Rheinmetall stand on the outdoor grounds of the Interschutz 2022 international trade fair in Hannover.

The two HX new vehicles were tailored to the needs of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) in collaboration with the companies MEILLER-Kipper München and Freytag Karosseriebau. Due to their high robustness, agility, and 1.5 meters fording capability, the trucks are well suited for use in rugged terrain or flood-prone areas. A circular roof hatch provides the crew with excellent 360-degree visibility and an additional entry and exit option. The HX vehicles are suitable for a variety of transport tasks and can also tow trailers used by the THW. The two donated HX vehicles will be deployed in the local chapters of Dülmen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Limburg (Hesse).

In the wake of the 2021 flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, Rheinmetall MAN decided to donate the two trucks. MEILLER Kipper München supported the project by donating the two three-way tippers, which were built by Freytag Karosseriebau. At the time, Rheinmetall had borrowed high-mobility RMMV vehicles from voluntary helpers of Rheinmetall's joint venture partner MAN to transport relief supplies to the disaster area and deliver the donations directly to the scene.

The HX family of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles is one of the most widely used commercial vehicles for military, authorities, and organizations with security tasks. Over 15,000 units are in use worldwide. The HX trucks are designed as a military-off-the-shelf vehicle family with a focus on robustness, agility, ergonomics, and modularity – a unique feature in the industry. Many of these vehicles have proven themselves in disaster relief and humanitarian missions around the world, including during the 2021 flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, bushfires in Australia, or the flood in New Zealand.

Rheinmetall exhibited at Interschutz for the first time. The event, held every five years, is considered the leading international trade fair for firefighting, rescue services, disaster and civilian protection, as well as security. This year's event took place from June 20 to 25, 2022 in Hannover. Rheinmetall's exhibits included the large tank firefighting vehicle SX-GTLF from the Unterlüß plant fire service, an HX 77 with the CSM Excavator attachment, and an HX60 three-way tipper.
