A new MICH helmet looks boring. To change that, many people screw and glue various additions to it. Today we want to show you how to pimp a newly purchased China MICH 2001 helmet.
We opted for rather simple additions:
First, all the pads from the inside were removed and the strap attachments unscrewed. Next, the entire surface of the helmet was sanded with 400 grit sandpaper, as it seemed too coarse to us.
A relatively complicated step was drilling the holes for the Norotos shroud. It's best to find the center of the helmet first, hold the shroud in place or fix it with duct tape and carefully drill through the eyelets with a 1.5mm drill bit. Then remove the shroud and widen the holes to 3mm.
Once all this is done, the question of painting arises. The possibilities for this are manifold, but because we couldn't decide, we left it black. Simply apply 2-3 thin layers of matte black paint and you're done.
Next comes the hook and loop fastener. But where and how much? We opted for a very classic approach. A strip on each side, one on top, and a large area on the back. Of course, you can let your imagination run wild here, what matters is what you like.
Finally, screw on the new straps and attach the MPLS helmet light in the desired location. The pimped MICH 2001 is ready - see the first image above. We think it looks much better than the naked helmet. Good luck with your work and let your imagination run wild when designing your helmet.
