HOW TO: Turn your MICH TC-2000 into a TC-2001!

05/17/2012By Redaktion

Anyone who has recently looked at pictures of Special Forces or the gentlemen from the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) will quickly notice that many - in addition to the Ops-Core helmet - especially wear the MICH TC-2001 high cut helmet. However, these helmets are difficult to find and, if available, are often at very high prices on the open market. We thought, why not make it ourselves, because it can't be that difficult. In the picture above, you can see the result: Here is the primed helmet with accessories and without filled corners! - Below we show you how to achieve the result. We started with a Gentex MICH 2000 helmet that we obtained new.
We also tried with an MSA helmet, but the challenge was a bit greater. So, the base: a Gentex MICH TC-2000 in Foliage Green.

One should then consider where to cut the helmet. In principle, we followed the "ears" of the 2000 model and traced the edges with a paint pen.
Then we carefully pulled down the helmet liner so that it doesn't tear anywhere. Be really careful here! We then cut with a normal electric jigsaw.
Let's cut it!

The edges are very frayed, which is of course due to the Kevlar. The solution here is very patient cutting with a sharp knife. Once the edges have the desired shape, you should carefully reattach the liner with super glue. There will be a piece about 2 cm missing at the back edge of the helmet, but this can easily be filled with silicone.

Once the liner is in place, it should be secured with tape. This is essential for shaping the helmet. Two extra hands are very helpful here!

The helmet should then dry for at least 24 hours. You will likely need to trim the edges and then fill them with putty to make the previously cut areas disappear. After that, the helmet can be customized. We opted for the trendy Ops-Core Velcro with curves.

Here is the blank with Velcro:
