First, to explain, a Drop Leg Holster sits in the middle of the thigh, while a Mid-Ride holster sits around hip level. This carrying height has become more and more popular recently among both police and military. Today, we want to show you how to turn a Blackhawk! Tactical Holster Platform into a Mid-Ride holster. Estimated working time about 20 minutes.
First, remove all straps. Those leading to the belt need to be cut off as they are securely sewn. Your platform should then look like the image above. By the way, this is a Chinese clone platform, the QD-Kit is original.
Now take out the saw and cut through as shown in the image, of course on both sides. Watch out for your limbs!
Next, round off the edges and everything else with sandpaper. The image shows the finished side (top) and the side after cutting. Once you are satisfied with the result, simply thread in a leg strap and a strap for attachment to the belt. We used a mounting strap from a no longer needed MOLLE leg platform. In the end, it should look like the first image.
You can of course leave the platform the same size and just change the strapping. However, we found the platform to be too large. And we never used the rail mounts, hence the sawing frenzy. Good luck with your crafting!
