HEXONIA dresses the Dutch army

04/04/2024By Redaktion

The HEXONIA GmbH, a subsidiary of the NFM Group AS, has been awarded a major contract for the delivery of a complete combat clothing system for the Dutch Armed Forces and the Belgian Navy. The Defence Operational Clothing System (DOKS) is one of the largest orders for military clothing in Europe to date.

As part of the DOKS project, HEXONIA will be responsible for outfitting around 45,000 soldiers and will deliver an integrated combat clothing system consisting of more than 30 different articles. The signed framework contract with a duration of eight years was handed over yesterday during a ceremonial event in Soesterberg, the Netherlands.

Special requirements of the DOKS project

A key requirement of the DOKS project is the modularity of the clothing system: Soldiers should have the ability to wear clothing tailored to each specific operational situation. It should cover a wide range of activities and environmental factors to protect against specific threats while enhancing performance. An important aspect of the project is the comprehensive involvement of reference groups, including soldiers from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Military Police.

Advanced clothing system with extensive sizing options

The system developed by HEXONIA includes underwear, insulation layers, weather protection, combat shirts, jackets, and pants in various colors and camouflage patterns, as well as functional accessories. These are offered in three different clothing sets tailored to different operational situations. The layers within the system are designed to seamlessly work with each other and with the military's existing protective equipment. With a specially developed sizing system that includes up to 35 size gradations, Hexonia ensures optimal fit and high comfort for the wearer.

"The high regard for our soldiers was decisive in choosing the clothing system from HEXONIA," says LTCOL project leader Bruce Mekking from COMMIT (Commando Materieel en IT of the Dutch Ministry of Defense).

Decades of development ensure quality and reliability

Quality, durability, and comfort are top priorities for HEXONIA in the development of combat clothing. For DOKS, the company uses high-quality yarns, fabrics, and knits developed through extensive research. The German medium-sized company largely masters the production process itself: Various knitting, cutting, and finishing machines are available at the Nettetal and Jahnsbach locations on around 12,000 square meters. In addition, over the years HEXONIA has built a network of reliable partners to ensure the quality and reliability of the production chain. All delivered parts undergo strict quality controls at various stages of the process.

"The confidence of the Dutch Ministry of Defense in the equipment of the Dutch Armed Forces and the Belgian Navy fills us with pride and is a validation of our daily work," says Nils Toverud, CEO of HEXONIA GmbH. "We have invested a lot in research and have built up sound expertise in military clothing development for more than 20 years. Since 2022, HEXONIA has been part of the NFM Group and together we are continuously expanding our production and logistics capabilities. This makes us a strong and reliable partner in Europe today, and we are confident that we can build a strong partnership with COMMIT to equip the Dutch soldiers with the clothing they need for their tasks, regardless of the mission and the climatic conditions they will encounter."

"The DOKS project is more than just an order, it is a great responsibility. On the way to equipping the Dutch Armed Forces, we at NFM Group, together with HEXONIA GmbH, want to push the boundaries of what is possible in military clothing. Our collaboration stands for a shared vision of excellence and a safer future for the soldiers," says Walter Øverland, CEO NFM Group AS.
