Busch PROtective USA is proud to announce that its flagship product, the ballistic helmet AMP-1 TP, has been selected by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a five-year Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). This agreement not only applies to the DEA but also to other prominent agencies of the U.S. Department of Justice, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Armor Express, the exclusive distributor of Busch PROtective in North America, has won this contract.
The AMP-1 TP helmet system, designed specifically for law enforcement and public safety applications, has successfully passed the new DEA-FBI Ballistic Helmet Protocol and already meets the Level IIIA and VPAM-3 standards of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Released in 2019, the new protocol focuses on real-world ballistic performance, including tests related to improved penetration, hard hot-cold conditions, 1-inch (2.54 cm) edge protection, and significantly restricted energy transfer during a ballistic event. With the outdated NIJ helmet standard from 1981, the DEA-FBI Ballistic Helmet Protocol 2019 has been widely recognized by law enforcement agencies worldwide as the new de facto gold standard.
“Thanks to state-of-the-art technology and extensive research and development, we have been able to deliver the ballistic helmet that meets the critical requirements of the DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and ATF,” said Scott Wyatt, President of Busch PROtective USA. “In collaboration with Armor Express, we have engaged with numerous high-performance teams, all pursuing unique goals to provide a world-class helmet system with unparalleled safety. This award strengthens the desire to provide the very best to those in public safety and improve the status quo in terms of acceptable ballistic performance.”
The Busch AMP-1 TP helmet system, already in use by the U.S. Marshals, other U.S. agencies, and several prominent law enforcement agencies, is known for its superior ballistic performance, modular accessories, and availability in numerous mission-ready configurations. In addition to its exceptional stopping power, the AMP-1 TP was designed to reduce blunt trauma, a key requirement in any ballistic helmet solution.
Busch PROtective now offers the lightweight helmet solution that is DEA-FBI Ballistic Helmet Protocol certified, mission-configured in over 11,000 combinations, and tailored specifically to all agency needs, such as helmet rails, night vision goggles, quick-release visor system, loops, VELCRO®, and custom covers.
