The German armed forces have ordered five RAM alarm systems of the Ground Alerter 10 (GA10) type. The contract with Thales includes training and documentation as well as an initial requirement of spare parts and an option for the delivery of additional systems. The first GA 10 will be delivered later this year, with more to follow until October 2024.
The Ground Alerter 10 is a portable RAM alarm system for the protection of facilities and objects, which has already proven itself in asymmetric scenarios and has saved numerous lives in the past. Its integrated alarm network warns individuals of mortar and rocket attacks as soon as their trajectory indicates an impending impact in the area of coverage. At the same time, the GA10 provides early actionable information about the launch position to enable a situation-appropriate intervention. Several GA10 systems are already actively used to protect the UN camps in Kidal (northeastern Mali) and Gao (eastern Mali), as well as at French military camps.
The Ground Alerter 10 is a complete sense and warn system consisting of a UHF radar, an integrated alarm network with multiple wireless and wired alarm devices, and an operator device (hardened laptop).
The radar system consists of the main elements:
The GA10 is characterized by minimal personnel requirements in operation, simple handling, and low transportation and deployment requirements. It is proven to be the lightest system in its class, portable (1- or 2-man loads) and therefore particularly suitable for dismounted use in convoy protection.

Set up and dismantling can be done with two people, with only one person needed for system initialization and monitoring in fully automated operation. The system can be deployed with protected leadership and functional vehicles of class 2 or by helicopter. The power consumption of the GA10 is only 350 watts and is therefore suitable for operation exclusively with batteries.
