Large order from a NATO customer: More artillery ammunition

Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a subsidiary, has signed a framework contract for the delivery of 155mm artillery ammunition from the proven Assegai product line. The contract value is in the mid nine-figure EUR range. The framework contract was signed in December 2022 and has a duration of five years.

The framework contract includes the delivery of 155mm projectiles of the M2005 V-LAP (Velocity Enhanced Long Range Artillery Projectile) type, modular propellants M92, and various fuses. The 155mm M2005 V-LAP projectile is characterized by high lethality and extended range due to rocket propulsion and base bleed technology. The tactical Assegai M92 propellants enable a reduction in barrel erosion and muzzle blast. The Assegai artillery product family is designed according to NATO Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU) requirements and qualified according to STANAG guidelines. It is already in use in several NATO countries.

The M2005 HE V-LAP projectile is one of the top products of modern artillery technology and allows for the engagement of soft targets and unarmored vehicles as well as the disruption of logistical supply lines beyond close range. The M2005 projectile can be fired from any compatible 155mm weapon system using suitable NATO-standard fuses and JBMoU-compatible modular propellant systems. Ground suction reduction and rocket support increase the range of the Assegai without special operational and logistical requirements.

Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a joint venture between Rheinmetall Weapon and Munition GmbH (51%) and South African Denel (Pty) Ltd, manufactures a variety of ammunition including 155mm artillery ammunition, 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm mortars, 40mm grenades, and 76/62mm naval shells, aircraft bombs, and mine clearing systems. Rheinmetall Denel Munition also builds ammunition filling plants for export and produces rocket subsystems.
