The Benchmark HK MR223 A3C from GermanGunWorks claims to set a benchmark in its class. This semi-automatic is manufactured through intensive work and excellent craftsmanship, with a focus on highest quality and performance from the Swabians. The production of the Benchmark series is limited exclusively to small series of up to 10 pieces. This is due to the enormous amount of work and time involved, as well as the unclear legal situation regarding future approvals for such semi-automatics. Therefore, these exquisite firearms are only made to order.
As the basis for this firearm model, a Heckler & Koch MR223A3 with an 11-inch barrel was chosen. This is because the MR223 is considered a technical benchmark in this segment. The goal was to make the weapon as compact and maneuverable as possible. Therefore, the overall length was reduced to the permissible length of 61 cm using a full metal telescopic stock. The muzzle flash hider was replaced with an HK flash hider with Rotex interface. Special attention was paid to durability when choosing the suppressor, which is why the B&T AG Rotex V was selected. It is made of Iconel/Thermax and withstands fast firing sequences over extended periods. It not only reduces the gunshot noise, but also minimizes the muzzle flash, compensates for the reduced range of the short barrel, and increases precision.
For maximum handling when carrying, the Magpul MS3 Gen2 Sling was adapted, which can be used as both a 1-point and a 2-point sling.
Additionally, the Max-Grip option is offered, which includes the grip, foregrip, and fire selector lever. These are hand-tooled to provide maximum grip. However, since this has pros and cons, it is an upgrade option upon request.
The Cerakote coating with high-quality ceramic paint is one of the major highlights. GermanGunWorks uses the more elaborate but superior H-Series. This is an oven-drying 2-component paint, which is much more challenging to apply compared to the air-drying C-Series from the manufacturer.
Own color mixes were used, such as RAL7013 (Braungrau ÖBH), which do not exist in Cerakote. The quality of the coating is also decisive, as GermanGunWorks executes it extremely well. Each part was individually pre-treated and degreased, blasted with specially designed granules, and painted and post-treated at the highest level. This results in a perfect coating where all the properties of the ceramic paint can come to full effect – because there are many providers, but those who can do it right are rather rare. At GermanGunWorks, it is difficult to find hard edges between the color layers, as painting is done with experience and skill, making a clear coat layer for leveling completely unnecessary.
Another highlight is the adjustable gas intake with five adjustable modes, allowing the weapon to be adjusted to all operational configurations. In addition, the standard trigger, which has a high trigger weight of over 3kg, was replaced by a WPNTEC trigger. This offers an adjustable weight between 1200g and 2750g and can be customized to the user in other relevant characteristics. Also noteworthy is the choice of the reliable and proven EOTech EXPS 3-0 as the main sight, supported by the ERATAC Flip-Up sight, which is designed as a 45° side-mounted back-up sight.
In summary, the Benchmark MR223A3C is a harmoniously tuned weapon system that has been refined through precise craftsmanship and experience. Each firearm requires about 15 additional working hours for the revision.
