Just over a quarter of a year ago, German GunWorks (GGW) took its shop offline. Now the shop has been completely overhauled and is back online.
But why take a well-functioning and successful shop out of the game for so long? Those who know the guys from GGW know that they don't do things by halves. For some time, the founder and the original team were dissatisfied with the implementation and how everything was developing. The company had become a department of a GmbH in the meantime, as they merged with another dealer. This meant that they could no longer focus solely on GGW, but had to spend the majority of their time with other departments and projects of the parent company. It was no longer the shop they had intended to build, and they were constantly operating with the handbrake on due to work around the other departments.
At the end of last year, the original founder finally separated from the old GmbH and bought back German GunWorks completely. After this liberation, the old and now new boss called parts of the original team together and they came back.
But what to do? Continue the shop and the company at this point, which no longer pleased anyone and suppressed the fundamental idea of the shop over the years? No! As mentioned, they don't do things by halves here, so they reset the counter completely to zero and asked themselves "What and how should the shop be to realize the idea of German GunWorks?"
The answer was quickly found - they deleted the old junk and started from scratch. But this time exactly as the team envisioned. On the same day they regained full control of German GunWorks, the shop went offline.
So in recent months, the team's keyboards have been smoking, because with the experience of the previous years and the existing professionalism, they had to set up something better than before and uphold their own values. The new shop, which has just gone online at www.GermanGunWorks.com, seems to fulfill exactly that.
What was done? In short, significant ideas and innovations were implemented. These are detailed below...
As a customer, you can no longer just navigate to your destination via the header, but through a carefully designed graphic menu. By using line drawings of the respective product groups, you can quickly reach your goal.
Furthermore, the sorting has also been changed. Whether you are a hunter, sports shooter, soldier or police officer, you now have your own shop area where you will only find what you can actually use. Gone are the days when you had to search for a serviceable scope mount in the product jungle among all the hunting gear - and vice versa.
But it goes even further, as each manufacturer has their own shop on the site. So if you already know what you want, you can go directly to the hunt for the right one in the respective manufacturer's shop.
For those wondering why only articles from Spuhr and BT Industries are listed so far, here is your answer. Since the old articles were hardly standardized and presented a huge confusion of different information quality, it was decided to create each article anew and go beyond the usual level. If, for example, the height of a scope mount is given from rail to ring bottom for one manufacturer and from rail to ring center for the next, they worked out the conversions for you. The amount of data received in the newly created articles in the shop is enormous and, above all, very helpful.
The products are linked with FAQs and info pages created specifically for this purpose, providing any assistance to find exactly what you are looking for. And as if the work on an article wasn't enough, all this information was also incorporated into an intelligent article filter, so that you can search successfully based on all the properties.
According to the team, creating an article of this quality takes about four times as long as it did before - but they never want to compromise the quality of the shop again and achieve what is possible today.
So after the entire basic structure of the shop with its many legal texts, links, and notices was finally established, they began with article creation. They are now in the process of creating one manufacturer after another and preparing each article for the shop as described earlier. Spuhr with its block mounts is already fully set up, as is BT Industries with its monopods and bipods. Currently, according to our information, they are working on ERATAC and Schmidt & Bender.
Many familiar manufacturers are to be included, but also some new ones. As we know GGW, interesting products from overseas are to be expected, as they have successfully established some brands in the past that no one wants to miss anymore.
The most burning question for many customers is whether Heckler & Koch will find its way back into GGW's product range. The guys are still a bit reserved on this, but are sending out positive signals.
Other new features of the shop include:
Overall, the German GunWorks team has taken on an enormous amount of work, but the new shop not only promises to be great, it already is in many aspects and we are excited to see what else is to come.
The shop has been designed very clearly, without sacrificing the necessary "coolness factor." With the sketchbook design, they are taking completely new paths and neither the products themselves nor the functionality are in danger of getting lost in a jumble of colors and information - a successful 2.0 shop.
After the restart and the many investments, the small company is certainly still a bit shaky, but can rely on a good community and customer base, which will help overcome this phase. According to the team, the best way to support is by making their work visible again, sharing posts and articles, and leaving a like here and there. The GermanGun-Freaks are back - just the way you want them!
