German GunWorks is capable of anything, we knew it already … An G3 comes in and it is to be redesigned. The result is the G3 DMR "Badger". If that reminds you of a G28, then you are not wrong. Here is the exclusive construction report from German GunWorks about the project:
The project began with a friendly customer who came to us with his Sabre Defense G3 replica and said: "Do something with it!". Since he knows our projects and what we are capable of, we agreed with a few words that we would have free rein for the conversion and could do whatever we wanted. The poor guy didn't know what we were going to do with his weapon.
We then thought about what we could do with a G3. It quickly became clear that it would go in the direction of "How would it look modern?". Since we are already very well known for our MR308 to G28 conversions, we thought it might also be interesting to build the G3 on the optical and functional basis of the G28. Since the G28 is the most modern DMR of the Bundeswehr, this concept fit our thoughts and we decided on it.
Afterwards, we strolled through our warehouse and looked at all the accessories we had for the G3. We opted for the UTG G3 forend, Picatinny adapter, Harris bipod, and the Magpul G3 stock. Everything else, being the largest distributor of HK accessories in Europe, was quite easy - HK G28 rail covers, sling swivels, foregrips, bipod mounts, slings, our own type 28 muzzle brake, and the original G28 scope complete. The kit was complete!
The project partner was also quickly clear. With a short phone call to Nord Powder Coating, which despite their name have a lot to do with painting, it was coordinated, agreed upon immediately, and it was ready to go.
First, we examined the weapon and considered which components should receive the Cerakote two-component ceramic coating. This sounds simple, but requires a lot of imagination, as you must be able to visualize the finished product in advance. Once this was done, we disassembled the weapon down to the smallest screw and packed the parts in bags sorted by color.
PBN immediately got to work upon arrival and blasted the rather battered housing of the weapon so that it received a perfect surface again. Then the parts we marked were painted in the corresponding colors, cured in the oven, and inspected. As always, this resulted in perfect surfaces, which are almost always better than modern factory paint jobs. With the Cerakote paint, the weapon is protected against corrosion and other environmental influences - abrasion-resistant, hard, and colorfast!
A few days later, the package arrived back with us and we eagerly opened the box. After checking the completeness and visually inspecting all the parts, we immediately started assembling the rifle. A few hours later, the assembled rifle was in front of us, with attention to detail like the engravings of the fire selector repainted and ready!
It may sound unprofessional, but we could barely take our eyes off the rifle for the rest of the day, which for our taste became one of the most beautiful projects we have ever been able to realize. We immediately called the customer who handed over the weapon - he came to us late in the afternoon to see his conversion for the first time. Following the inspection was a lasting smile and a great dinner for the German GunWorks project manager, which the customer sponsored.
Since we did not have a name for the project yet, we let our Facebook followers decide … After Keiler (MR223) and Natter (MR308), the G3 DMR "Badger" was created in this way.
We would like to thank our customer for their trust, the excellent cooperation with Nord Powder Coating once again, as well as the followers who through their likes and conversations bring us such clients and thus make the projects happen! Thank you!
