Today, experts from KMW and Rheinmetall have located a portion of the damaged Puma armored vehicles of the Bundeswehr, including at the Rheinmetall AG location in Unterlüß in close proximity to the Munster training area. The aim of the experts is first and foremost to create a qualified damage assessment in order to initiate immediate repairs.
The industry has already taken further measures in close coordination with the BMVg. All efforts are now focused on repairing the vehicles in the next two to three weeks.
The analysis of the causes of the apparently very distinctive damage cases and extent of damage was immediately initiated on the industrial side as soon as it became known. From the beginning, the industry has been closely involved in this analysis process with the BMVg and the Bundeswehr.
In coordination with the Ministry of Defense, immediate measures were proposed by the industrial partners and presented in a package of measures.
As part of the implementation of the aforementioned package of measures, expert personnel from KMW and Rheinmetall have also been dispatched to Bundeswehr locations where additional defective Puma vehicles are located.
The Puma system is the centerpiece of the connected digitized land forces of the Bundeswehr. The combat readiness of the system was confirmed in 2021 during an elaborate technical inspection.
In order to reliably ensure the readiness of the VJTF forces throughout the entire deployment period, the industry should be continuously available on-site to accompany the Puma armored vehicle as part of the unit and be consulted.
The industry is committed to ensuring that the Puma remains the backbone of the German armored infantry. At the same time, the Puma is an integral and indispensable part of the German Army's armored infantry system.
KMW and Rheinmetall see successful cooperation with the BMVg and Bundeswehr in the development and certification of the Puma armored vehicle as a guarantee for resolving the current problems.
