GEAR Made in USA: Spiritus Systems in Interview

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit ... Christmas is coming. We can't bring you the Holy Spirit, but Spiritus Systems, we have in stock. We introduced their Micro Chest Rig in the SPARTANAT Review just a few days ago. Now we want to know from the minimalists from the USA what drives them. SPARTANAT: There are many companies with many products. Spiritus Systems seems to be one of the few with just one product: the Micro Fight Chassis and all its parts. How come?

Spiritus Systems: Our company has always looked for market segments where there was a lack of innovation and substance, but where we could do better. We are not a business with "me too" products. The last thing the world needs is another MOLLE 5.56 Mag Pouch. The Micro Fight Chest Rig, on the other hand, was the first product to bring an extremely high level of modularity to such a small platform. We want to focus all our energy on developing this product to the fullest and to provide as much user configurability as possible.

What many people don't see is how much research and development we put into our new products. Everything we put out has been rigorously tested, and we wouldn't sell it if it wasn't gear we would trust our lives with. We work closely with different agencies and units to find innovative solutions to the problems they face daily. We work with companies that shape the future of military technology and communication, allowing us to incorporate design elements and features that will determine the battlefield of the future. Throughout 2018, we will be introducing several new products to the public. Most exciting are our Plate Carriers, which you will see more of at the SHOT Show 2018.

SPARTANAT: Micro Rigs are now fully on trend, from the VOCR by Extreme Gear Labs, leading to the D3CR by Haley Strategic and currently the Training Mini Rig by Helikon-Tex. What makes the Chest Rig System from Spiritus so special?

Spiritus Systems: I'm glad to see so many companies emerging to solve a problem that has existed for years. When we designed the first Micro Fight Chest Rig in 2015, we did it out of frustration that everything on the market was bulky and permanently sewn. What people appreciate most about our system is the high modularity. We don't dictate how their gear should be configured. We don't want everyone to have to buy multiple Chest Rigs for different platforms. We don't restrict people's workflow to ensure that the kit is ambidextrous. There is no one in the world who knows more about your own needs than you do. We just provide the tools for you to find the best solution for your situation. The great thing is that if your situation changes, you just need to adjust your rig and keep going. This all leads back to a core motto of the infantry: "Brilliance in the Basics".

SPARTANAT: Where do you come militarily from? And where did the idea for the Micro Fight System come from? Were you surprised by the success of the Micro Fight System?

Spiritus Systems: My partner and I were both infantrymen in the US Army. I think it's the classic story: you've experienced too many problems with the gear and you want to do something about it. The Micro Fight was simply the answer to a need that my partner identified when he worked for the State Department after his active duty. He needed a rig that was small enough to fit under a truck seat, but at the same time could hold enough magazines and gear to last when things are in motion. When the first design for the Chassis took shape, we knew we had something in our hands that almost anyone working with a long gun could use. Whether it's a police officer in an Active Shooter Response Team, or whether it is mounted as a magazine carrier on a plate carrier, or whether it's equipment for a responsible, armed citizen needing something small for the range... Our kit is flexible and dynamic enough to provide exactly what is needed.

SPARTANAT: What's next? We've seen the Bank Robber Chest Rig, you mentioned a PC too? Do you want to continue with your minimalist style?

Spiritus Systems: The Bank Robber was a hit and you'll see it popping up at many of our resellers after a year. As I mentioned earlier, our Plate Carrier line will be hitting the market very soon. We have developed three different carriers (NV-119, LV-119, and MT-119) that meet a variety of requirements, but you'll have to be a little patient if you want to learn more. All I can say is that the MT-119 platform for plate carriers will bring exactly what the Micro Fight did for Chest Rigs.

And a little tip: The best way to keep up with what's going on at Spiritus headquarters and stay up to date is to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. There you can see the hot stuff we'll be presenting at the beginning of 2018.

SPIRITUS SYSTEMS consists of Zane Vogel and Adam Holroyd. Both together founded the company. The handsome guy who likes to show himself in the pictures is Adam.
