12/05/2021By Redaktion

Currently on Netflix there is the documentary film "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible". This film is about the ambitious project of Nirmal "Nims" Purja called "Project Possible". The goal of the project: to climb all 8,000-meter mountains in the world in seven months. In total, there are 14 mountains, which he divided into three phases. The first person to climb all 8,000ers was Reinhold Messner. However, he did it in a period of 16 years - between 1970 and 1986.

But who is Nims? He was born in Nepal in 1983 and at the age of 18 he joined the Gurkhas. The Gurkhas are Nepalese soldiers in the service of the British Army and the Indian Armed Forces. After six years as a Gurkha, he sought a new challenge and became the first Gurkha to join the Special Boat Service (SBS) of the British Army. The SBS is the maritime counterpart to the SAS as a special unit of the British Navy.

Ten years later, Nims ended his career as a Tier One Operator at the SBS, to pursue his passion for mountaineering as a new career.

His project is supported by former comrades from the SBS with ThruDark. The company produces clothing for outdoor and tactical use. Together, ThruDark developed his special suit for mountaineering in extreme cold, as well as some other garments. Nims was able to test the gear from ThruDark under extreme conditions.

In the film, the entire project is shown, including all the background of its development. And above all, Nims with his incredible mindset. Willpower can move mountains, as he vividly demonstrates with his mountain conquests. In total, he has also set eight new world records with this.
