ENFORCE TAC 2022: ELCAN Specter DR for Germany

03/11/2022By Redaktion

At the trade fair, you can sometimes look into the future, as at the booth of LEONARDO. There, the future of the Bundeswehr could be seen: the ELCAN Specter DR, which will be the new standard optic of the Bundeswehr. "Main combat sight" is a beautiful German word, the device is part of the Bundeswehr Assault Rifle system.

In Meppen, where they are very addicted to tests, this device was tested with 30,000 shots and subjected to all sorts of adversities. Result of the brutal tests: it works reliably like after the first shot.

LEONARDO has already concluded a framework contract with the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) through its subsidiary LEONARDO Germany GmbH, which fixes the delivery of up to 107,929 daylight optics for current and new assault rifles of the Bundeswehr.

Here is the other side of the battered optic. The ELCAN Specter DR will have three changes compared to the regular models used by the US Army: the selector for the 1-4x magnification is continuous on the German model and can be operated symmetrically on the right and left. The two mounts on the optic are the front and rear mounting points for the Back Up Iron Sights, which Germany completely dispenses with on the original.

And the mount for a possible attached Back-Up optic for close range is a fixed small Picantinny Rail instead of a special mount. Here, by the way, in the picture with an ELCAN Red Dot, which is not intended for the Bundeswehr.

For comparison before the tests, this is what a new German Specter DR for the Bundeswehr looks like before Meppen had its way with it.

Here being tested on an AR15. HERE is the SPARTANAT Review of ELCAN Specter DR.
