Rheinmetall sees it as its obligation to provide those who protect our society with the best possible equipment. On March 1 and 2, 2017, the high-technology company for security and mobility will present its extensive product portfolio for the police and security forces at the EnforceTac trade fair in Nuremberg.
The Survivor R is symbolic of the themes of security and mobility. Developed in cooperation with the renowned specialist vehicle manufacturer Achleitner, it is excellently suited as a protected special vehicle for police forces. The Survivor R is based on a powerful 4x4 truck chassis from MAN and a cab made of armored steel. This high-mobile and over 100 km/h fast vehicle combines automotive large-scale technology with state-of-the-art protection technology from Rheinmetall.
The armored monocoque can be adapted discretely with adaptive protective elements to changing threat situations and comes standard with a protection ventilation system against nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare agents. Although excellently protected, the outer appearance of the Survivor R for police operations is intentionally civil and optically de-escalating. The interior is bright and ergonomically designed, easy to clean, and offers sufficient space for a crew of up to ten people with personal equipment as well as extensive radio and command equipment. The consistent use of civil-commercial and military serial components enables a favorable vehicle price, as well as worldwide maintenance and repair within the Rheinmetall MAN service network. This makes the Survivor R a cost-effective, easy-to-maintain vehicle platform with low lifecycle costs and high operational readiness.
Rheinmetall's VERHA (Versatile Rheinmetall Armour) product range is suitable for various applications – in the maritime sector, on land and air vehicles, and also as part of protective vests. In the context of several contracts, Rheinmetall has already delivered different types of protection systems to customers in both civilian and military and police sectors. These include partial armor for ships, fiber composite protection components for armored premium-class limousines, hard-ballistic inserts for protective vests, or quickly adaptable protective segments for armoring helicopter cockpits.
In recent years, Europe has also experienced an increasing presence of a new type of terrorist offender: one who acts militarily, is often militarily equipped, and aims for high casualties in a short period of time. Police forces are increasingly preparing for such situations, including amok situations, where patrol crews are usually the "first responders."
To protect these forces from rifle fire, Rheinmetall, in collaboration with the specialist equipment supplier Linderhof-Taktik, has developed plate carriers. These can be carried in patrol cars and quickly put on when needed.
Rheinmetall has also developed an innovative technology for the maintenance and inspection of hard ballistic vest inserts, called Sensing Armour. The core of the technology is a sensor system integrated into the insert. This makes it quick and easy to detect damage to inserts that appear outwardly intact, without the need for complicated X-ray examinations.
Rheinmetall has expanded its proven Laser Light Module family "VarioRay" with two additional modular components. The Laser Module VarioRay LowProfile and the separate weapon light with 500 lumens brightness provide the user with even greater tactical flexibility, all with extremely compact dimensions. The new products are key components in increasing the tactical value of modern small arms systems. Visitors to EnforceTac 2017 can also learn about the other members of the VarioRay family and the fire control visors MultiRay MR 500 and MR 800. The sniper attachment module TAC-Ray 1500 with integrated ballistic calculator is also on display.Special Operations Equipment
Rheinmetall offers an extensive range of pyrotechnic tactical equipment. For intrusion scenarios, the proven portfolio includes multiple bang grenades and improved flash bang grenades with Bottom-Top-Venting (BTV) technology. They are characterized by high handling safety and precision in effectiveness and reliability.
To illuminate the operational environment at night, Rheinmetall has developed a wide range of signaling and perimeter lighting systems. This includes the handheld rocket MITHRAS, with illumination in visible or infrared in ranges of 300, 600, and 1000 meters.
In cooperation with Steyr Mannlicher, Rheinmetall offers the modular multi-purpose rifle RS556 in 5.56mm x 45 caliber. The weapon is a gas-operated gun with adjustable short-stroke piston system and rotating bolt. A special bolt guide with emergency running properties ensures that the RS556 always functions reliably under extreme operating conditions (especially in extremely hot or cold environments).
The adjustable plastic shoulder stock locks in seven positions, allowing the user to optimize the weapon to their equipment. The RS556 has multiple fixed and optional NATO accessory rail mounting rails, allowing all common optics, night vision devices, and other attachments to be mounted on the rifle.
The cold-hammered barrel can be easily and toollessly replaced by the shooter in a few seconds, allowing the RS556 to be adapted for various applications.
The RS556 can also accommodate the 40mm grenade launcher RS40 as an attachment.
As a leading manufacturer of ammunition and effect systems, Rheinmetall offers a portfolio adapted to many operational scenarios in the 40mm x 46 caliber. This ranges from irritation ammunition to marking rounds, non-lethal impulse munitions, and highly effective special solutions for methods of entry (MOE).
Rheinmetall also offers weapon concepts as a system house. These include the RS40, which can be used as an attachment or stand-alone launcher, and the Magazine Fed Grenade Launcher (MFGL), a magazine-fed grenade launcher with integrated hydraulic damping.
In-house fire control sights make Rheinmetall a one-stop shop for 40mm effect systems.
Training and education hold a key position in operational value. Rheinmetall offers versatile simulation and training solutions for this purpose. At EnforceTac, Rheinmetall presents its Live Simulation System LEGATUS. This is ideal for training responses to terrorism and amok situations, highlighting Rheinmetall's leading position in the development of forward-looking live simulation technology.
LEGATUS is characterized by three essential qualities: robust, independent, and intelligent. Robust – because the technology can be used in various environmental conditions. Independent – because customers can rely on wireless and mobile training solutions independent of fixed infrastructure. Intelligent – because flexible, modern IT solutions are used for effective and realistic training.
Detailed evaluation is one of the core elements of live training, enabling the operations leader to fully understand the situation and identify any weaknesses.
The listed Rheinmetall AG, based in Düsseldorf, is a globally operating high-technology group. The company is divided into two operational sectors: Rheinmetall Defence and Rheinmetall Automotive. With around 23,000 employees, the group generates an annual revenue of around 5.6 billion EUR.
Rheinmetall's product portfolio in the public security sector also covers many other relevant capability categories: reconnaissance and surveillance, leadership, cyber, effect, protection, and mobility.
