EDELWEISS ADVENTURE: Shooting training precision pistol

04/07/2022By Redaktion

At the end of last year, we already announced it and HERE reported on it, Edelweiss Adventure changed its course program. There are still Course 1 and 2 for pistol and rifle, but with a focus on the basics. Different and new are the shooting training sessions. This involves a mix of guided training and classic modules, where content is explained in new ways. One of them - and essential for us - we visited right away: Precision Pistol Shooting Training.

This time we are a total of five participants. Friendly welcomed by the course leader Maciej, each participant is allowed to introduce themselves, talk about their weaknesses, and express their hopes for the course. Our problem with shooting is that we tend to go faster than we need to be in drills and become inaccurate as a result.

Since we also participate in competitions, we would like to take away some practical tips to perhaps improve. With a smile, the coach promises to be able to help us. Well, we're curious.

The first exercise is quite unfamiliar right away, it's about loading a magazine full and stepping forward individually. The participants' looks are uncertain, questions are asked - completely full? Yes, you understood correctly! In the background, the thought of defense shooting is always present. You would like to face an emergency situation with a full magazine. While the group is chatting, participants shoot one by one at the target, with as much precision as possible, without time pressure.

Afterwards, hits are marked, analyzed, and problems are identified. Does the participant's statement match the shot pattern? Initial suggestions for improvements follow.

Three more magazines are loaded and fired. Helpful tips tailored to each participant and their weaknesses are given in between. To combat being too fast, loud counting helps before firing to stay in rhythm. For others, it may be the weapon grip or body posture that is corrected.

If a participant feels underchallenged, the trainer either introduces small stumbling blocks to make the exercises more difficult or gives more instructions to follow. This ensures that everyone is optimally challenged. As there is only one overarching goal, the content can be flexibly adapted to the group or individual participants.

What should not be missing in precision training? The well-known and feared Dot Drill. Here is our result, with a few trainer surprises in between. We are satisfied and were able to successfully implement some tips.

Don't worry - in this image, the condition of the weapon was checked to illustrate to the participants the importance of the position. If the weapon grip is correct, the stance is stable, and the sight alignment is internalized, more difficult drills follow, leading up to a final exercise.

Even though precision training doesn't necessarily focus on time, time is still taken to develop a sense of it. Here again the idea that one is training for an emergency situation.

The training normally lasts about 1.5 hours - but because it went very well in our group and there were no further courses afterwards, we were allowed to go over time a bit. In the end, the participants, as well as us, were very satisfied. Compared to the first drill, there was an improvement in everyone and the shot groups visibly got smaller.

For us, the training was an absolute enrichment and we think the format is great. We got to know our weapon a bit better and were able to boost our confidence in shooting, as well as take away some tips. Bring on the next competition!

A repeat is definitely possible. It's also important to note that newcomers are welcome, as the free "range check" ensures that you don't have to repeat several modules if you have received training from someone else. The cost of the course is 80 euros. If you complete courses 1 & 2, you will automatically become an Edelweiss Family Member and receive a 20% discount on corresponding trainings and more. Alternatively, this bonus can also be purchased separately.

You can find all courses and shooting trainings directly HERE at Edelweiss.

A final note - Precision Pistol Shooting Training - has been renamed to "Trigger Control". Speed is now also more of a focus in this training.
