SAAB announces a new feature for its Barracuda Ultra-lightweight Camouflage Screen (ULCAS), which allows armed forces to combine protection from the enemy with the ability to communicate with friendly forces.
Barracuda camo nets provide vital protection for a soldier by concealing the operator from radar sensors, for example. However, the same properties that provide this protection also restrict the use of GPS and/or VHF communication to and from below the net. SAAB's new frequency-selective surface technology (ULCAS-FSS) allows selected radio frequencies to pass easily in both directions through the camo net, while simultaneously protecting against the higher frequencies of electromagnetic waves used by radar systems. This represents a significant advancement in modern signature management technology.
“Thanks to our expertise in signature management, we are taking camouflage to the next level with this innovative feature. It changes the way soldiers communicate while maintaining multispectral protection, ushering in a new era of tactical communication flexibility that offers unparalleled opportunities," says Henning Robach, head of the SAAB Barracuda business unit. All information about the Barracuda Camosphere directly from SAAB.
Saab's camouflage solutions, including the ULCAS with FSS function, will be on display at DSEI 2023 in London from September 12 to 15 at booth H7-210.
