The Finnish Border Guard will use the CAMCOPTER S-100 by Schiebel for maritime surveillance. The RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) service is provided by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and will also extend to Estonia and Sweden.
The CAMCOPTER S-100 will assist the Finnish authorities in carrying out tasks of the coast guard, such as search and rescue, surveillance and control, ship and port security, maritime traffic, environmental protection, assistance in maritime accidents, and incident and disaster response. The S-100 will be equipped to perform these tasks with a L3 Wescam Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) camera gimbal, an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch, a Becker Avionics BD406 Emergency Beacon Locator, and an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver.
In November 2018, EMSA awarded Schiebel a multi-year maritime surveillance contract for a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) RPAS. In fulfilling this contract, Schiebel simultaneously provides maritime surveillance services for multiple EU member states and EU agencies. Currently, the CAMCOPTER S-100 is also deployed in the Republic of Croatia, supporting the Directorate for Maritime Safety of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia.
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, says: "The S-100 has extensive experience in the maritime domain. It is the UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) of choice when it comes to demanding maritime surveillance. We are proud that EMSA has chosen the RPAS that provides vital surveillance services to its member states."
